North Rhine-Westphalia: shots at a man with a toy gun: the procedure is set

Wuppertal (dpa / lnw) - Five months after police shots at a man with a knife and a toy gun that looked deceptively real in Wuppertal, the public prosecutor's office has stopped the investigation against the officials. The public prosecutor's office said on Wednesday that it was not clear to the officials in the specific dynamic situation that it was a toy gun. It was not recognizable as such at first glance and could not be distinguished from a real firearm.

According to the investigation, the 30-year-old is said to have previously threatened the officers with a knife and also threatened to attack them. He is said to have pulled the alleged pistol out of a backpack and pointed it at a police officer. A spokesman for the public prosecutor said the officials fired assuming there was imminent danger. Three police officers fired a total of eleven shots. The man suffered nine injuries, mainly to his legs and hands. There was no danger to life.
