North Rhine-Westphalia: Significantly more top Abis in NRW

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The number of Abitur grades with an average of 1.0 or better has increased significantly in North Rhine-Westphalia in recent years. According to the state figures from the Conference of Ministers of Education, 2436 high school graduates in North Rhine-Westphalia received a grade of 1.0 or better last year.

The average Abitur grades last year was 2.36. 3.2 percent achieved a dream Abitur of 1.0 or better. Before the corona pandemic in 2019, the rate of top high school graduates was significantly lower at 1.9 percent.

But the rate of failed Abitur exams also increased: while 4.5 percent failed the Abitur in 2022 and failed, the rate of those who failed in 2019 was only 3.3 percent.

On the other hand, only four high school graduates across the country managed to pass with the worst possible average of 4.0 last year. A total of 80,525 young people obtained their Abitur in NRW in 2022. The "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" (Thursday) had previously reported on the country figures.
