North Rhine-Westphalia: Six-year-old daughter killed: trial against mother begins

Essen (dpa / lnw) - A mother from Bottrop has to answer to the court in Essen on Wednesday (9 a.m.) for the murder of her six-year-old daughter. The 46-year-old is accused of cutting the child's neck several times with a kitchen knife on the night of January 28th. Among other things, the trachea and esophagus were severed. Before that, the mother is said to have tried to drown the girl in the bathtub. According to the indictment, the background to the crime was a custody dispute with the child's father. After the crime, the 46-year-old tried to take his own life. If convicted of murder, she faces life imprisonment.
