North Rhine-Westphalia: Small koala in the Duisburg Zoo dares to get out of the bag

Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - Half a year after the birth of a koala in Duisburg Zoo, the chances for visitors to catch a glimpse of the little one are increasing. The zoo announced on Friday that he was blinking more and more often out of his mother Gooni's bag and had even made his first trips on her back.

After it was born last July, the little one, which was only the size of a gummy bear at the time, went straight into its mother's protective pouch. "Since then, the koala child has developed invisibly for all of us," said district manager Mario Chindemi.

Conclusions about the development of the offspring can be drawn from the weight of the mother, who is regularly weighed with the young in the pouch. "We can also get a good impression by touching the outside of the bag. We don't touch it," said Chindemi. The animal keepers are very satisfied with the development of the boy.

At the age of 190 days, the still nameless little male is now becoming increasingly agile. In the future, it will probably leave the bag more and more often, so that visitors to the zoo can marvel at it.
