North Rhine-Westphalia: Smoke triggers the fire service in Düsseldorf's Rheinturm

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Because of a burned-out component in the Düsseldorf Rheinturm, the fire brigade went on a large-scale operation on Saturday morning. The automatic fire alarm system triggered an alarm shortly before 7 a.m., the fire brigade said. A total of 45 emergency services were on site and noticed smoke from the burned-out electronic component in the engine of the television tower's cold store. Nobody got hurt.

The closed fire protection doors would have prevented the smoke from spreading outside the technical area. Two people who were found in the restaurant area at a height of 168 meters were brought out of the tower using the fire brigade elevators. It is still unclear why the component burned out. The building was allowed to be used normally again by the operator after the end of the operation.
