North Rhine-Westphalia: son is said to have attacked parents: police are looking for witnesses

Rödinghausen (dpa / lnw) - After an alleged attempted homicide in Rödinghausen (Herford district), in which a 33-year-old is said to have attacked and injured his parents, the police are looking for further witnesses. "The attack is said to have taken place outside on the street," said a police spokesman on Friday. "We are still urgently looking for witnesses who saw something but have not yet contacted us."

An arrest warrant for attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm was issued against the 33-year-old on Thursday. He is said to have injured his parents with a hammer on Wednesday evening. The 62-year-old father suffered minor injuries and the 64-year-old mother suffered serious injuries in the attack, police and prosecutors said on Thursday. The mother was taken to the hospital, her life is not in danger.

Witnesses had initially reported to the police an altercation between two men. When emergency services arrived, they found the two injured parents. The 33-year-old fled, but was arrested in the evening and brought before the magistrate on Thursday. A homicide detective is investigating.
