Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - After life-threatening knife wounds at carnival in Düsseldorf's old town, an 18-year-old has had to answer to the court for three times attempted manslaughter since Monday. According to the indictment, the then 17-year-old was traveling with a friend of the same age on Burgplatz in Düsseldorf and got into an argument with another group.

According to investigators, there was an altercation that was "conducted with considerable brutality by both sides". The 17-year-old pulled a knife and stabbed two opponents. Then he and his friend are said to have stabbed, kicked and punched a third victim.

The alleged accomplice has been charged with two counts of dangerous bodily harm. After a public manhunt, the two suspects turned themselves in to the police. For reasons of youth protection, the process takes place behind closed doors.

The only thing that was confirmed from the process environment was that the indictment had been read out. Further information on the first day of the hearing was not disclosed.
