North Rhine-Westphalia: stair running and hose pulling: competition for fire brigades

Mönchengladbach (dpa/lnw) - Around 150 firefighters competed in an international competition in Mönchengladbach over the weekend. The participants had to go through four stations that came very close to real operational situations, as a spokesman said. They had to walk up at least 15 floors in the Elisabeth Hospital in full protective gear. Pulling hoses, climbing up a wall, setting up ladders or carrying weights to the second floor were also required.

At the "Toughest Firefighter Alive" (TFA) competition, which according to a spokesman usually takes place every year, "the toughest firefighters" are chosen. At the European and German Championships in Mönchengladbach this time, participants from Romania, Austria and Belgium will also be there. "All firefighters who want to can register - whether full-time or volunteer, whether someone is particularly athletic or not," said the spokesman. There was also a supporting program for visitors with a fire engine exhibition and a games festival for children.
