North Rhine-Westphalia: state parliament becomes a major construction site: new elevator for visitors

Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - The Düsseldorf state parliament will become a major construction site in summer: A completely new elevator will be installed for the numerous visitors to the house. For this, parts of the state parliament have to be gutted, as the German Press Agency learned.

"As part of the overall modernization of the building, the state parliament is to receive a new elevator to give the many visitors easier access to the grandstand of the plenary hall and to improve accessibility," said a spokesman for the state parliament.

Especially on plenary days, "around 1,000 external guests often move around in the state parliament building. This means that many more citizens visit the North Rhine-Westphalia parliament today than was expected when it was planned around 45 years ago." To do justice to this, the new elevator is to be built. So far there is only one lift for visitors.
