North Rhine-Westphalia: State parliament continues to broadcast committee meetings and hearings

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament wants to continue broadcasting committee meetings and hearings on the Internet in the future. The live stream temporarily introduced during the pandemic is now set to become a permanent feature. "Recently the corona pandemic has accelerated and changed communication. The state parliament also experienced a digitization push to enable participation and access for more people to state politics," said state parliament president André Kuper (CDU) of the online edition of the "Rheinische Post" ( Wednesday).

The positive experiences should flow into everyday parliamentary life so that the state parliament remains a modern and citizen-friendly parliament. According to a state parliament spokesman, the regulation stipulates that expert hearings are generally broadcast, experts could also be connected via video. At committee meetings, two groups would have to request the transfer beforehand. Non-public meetings and meetings of the parliamentary committees of inquiry are excluded from the regulation.
