Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In North Rhine-Westphalia, 40,082 babies were born to non-German mothers in the past year up to November. This was reported by the state statistics office IT.NRW on Thursday. Women from Ukraine gave birth to 1,445 children during this period - about three times as many as in the whole of 2021. However, this was only 3.6 percent of all newborns from mothers with non-German nationalities. Infants born to Syrian mothers formed the largest group with 5,428 newborns, followed by 4,862 babies born to Turkish mothers.
