His seriously injured, 64-year-old flight instructor was operated on after the accident and was conscious, said the chairman of the flying club, Daniel Gärtner.

The machine had an accident during an unsuccessful take-off maneuver at the Plettenberg-Hüinghausen airfield and hit a field near the airfield, said a police spokesman. The aircraft was massively damaged and currently no longer airworthy. The exact cause of the crash is being investigated. The Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) and the district government of Münster were involved.
