North Rhine-Westphalia: Summer thunderstorms after heat in North Rhine-Westphalia

Essen (dpa / lnw) - After high summer temperatures in the last few days, people in North Rhine-Westphalia have to prepare for heat thunderstorms from Thursday. In the morning it will remain mostly sunny and dry before the first thunderstorms will move across the country in the afternoon, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). According to the DWD, heavy rain, hail and violent gusts of wind could occur locally. The temperatures are between 33 and 36 degrees with weak to moderate wind, in the higher mountains around 30 degrees. During the night there will be thunderstorms and partly rain. Sometimes heavy rain is also possible.

On Friday the sun will alternate with occasional thunderstorms. Storms with heavy rain cannot be ruled out locally, the DWD announced. However, these should weaken over the course of Friday and move to the southeast. The temperatures drop noticeably to 22 to 26 degrees with weak to moderate wind, on the Kahler Asten to 19 degrees. In the event of thunderstorms, isolated gusts of wind are also possible. During the night it will be cloudy but dry. According to the DWD, Saturday will be clear to cloudy, and it shouldn't rain either. The temperatures are around 22 to 25 degrees with weak to moderate wind, at high altitudes around 19 degrees. The DWD explained that there was no precipitation even at night with a cloudy to clear sky.
