North Rhine-Westphalia: Sunny and warm weekend in NRW - but low water

Essen (dpa / lnw) - People in North Rhine-Westphalia can look forward to a warm summer weekend. The lack of rain, however, continues to ensure low water levels, as the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration announced. The level of the Rhine in Düsseldorf, for example, has dropped by around 10 centimeters compared to midday last Sunday.

Nationwide there is no hope of significant precipitation for the next four to ten days, said the meteorologist at the German Weather Service (DWD), Felix Dietzsch. "Not only will agriculture continue to suffer from the ongoing drought, the risk of forest fires will also increase significantly in this way in the new week."

According to the DWD, it will be sunny and rain-free on Saturday with temperatures of a pleasant 22 to 24 degrees and around 18 degrees at high altitudes. Only a light breeze can be felt in the midday and afternoon. At night it then cools down to 11 to 7 degrees - in the valleys of the mountains locally to 5 degrees. There will be no change in the weather on Sunday either. According to the DWD, it will be a few degrees warmer with maximum values of 24 to 26 and 22 degrees in the higher mountains. Temperatures are expected to climb to 28 degrees on Monday, and there should still be no precipitation.
