Münster (dpa / lnw) - The "Historian Prize of the City of Münster", endowed with 15,000 euros, is to go to a woman for the first time. The city announced on Wednesday evening after a council decision. This year, the historian Ute Daniel from the Technical University of Braunschweig received the award. The professor has been teaching history of the 19th and 20th centuries there since 1996. century and the early modern period. The reason given was that Daniel repeatedly dealt with unusual issues and thus set new trends - often against the mainstream of their mostly male colleagues.
"Daniel is being honored for her wide-ranging work, her contributions to the methodological advancement of historical science and the high degree of originality and innovation in her research," the jury justified its decision, which the council agreed with. The prize has been awarded for the eighth time since 1981. The jury consists of representatives from all council factions, scientists as well as Mayor Markus Lewe (CDU) and Cornelia Wilkens, head of the cultural department.
The award will be presented on September 27th at the celebrations of the 375th anniversary of the Peace of Westphalia.
