The main reason for the decline is the corona pandemic, according to the Federal Employment Agency in NRW. Mini-jobbers in particular were affected by lockdown phases in 2021, said Christoph Löhr, spokesman for the agency on request. "In addition, many mini-jobbers had found other jobs during the pandemic," he said.
There was a different development among employees subject to social security contributions. According to the information, their number increased by 1.1 percent (76,000) to 6.7 million employees on average in 2021. If you add up the mini-jobbers and the permanent positions, you get an average of 7.6 million employees over the past year. That was 0.4 percent more than in 2020.
