North Rhine-Westphalia: The probationary period of the ex-art consultant Achenbach is over

Düsseldorf/Kleve (dpa/lnw) - The probationary period of the former art consultant and convicted fraudster Helge Achenbach is over - he is no longer threatened with imprisonment in the matter. Achenbach himself uploaded the corresponding notification from the district court of Kleve to Instagram - accompanied by the pop ballad "Hallelujah". Several media had previously reported.

A spokeswoman for the regional court did not want to say anything about the letter on Monday because it was a non-public procedure. According to Achenbach, he received the letter on Friday - exactly eight years to the day after his arrest. "I see the fact that it happened today as a wonderful sign that the judicial system is working," Achenbach told the Neuss-Grevenbroicher Zeitung. The former art consultant has built a new life in Kaarst near Neuss with the "Culture without Borders" association.

Achenbach was sentenced to six years in prison in March 2015 for fraud against customers worth millions. He was released on parole in June 2018.
