North Rhine-Westphalia: trial against mother: small children endangered by surgeries?

Paderborn (dpa / lnw) - A mother from Büren (Paderborn district) has been in court in Paderborn since Tuesday because she is said to have had two of her children unnecessarily operated on. She is accused of dangerous bodily harm, severe abuse of wards and intentional bodily harm in a total of five cases.

Between November 2015 and October 2018, the accused from the Paderborn district is said to have given doctors inaccurate information about the state of health of the two little girls in order to obtain medical treatment that was not medically necessary. One of the daughters is said to have had an artificial bowel outlet when she was a baby. The other daughter, born in 2017, is said to have had a gastric tube surgically, but this did not ensure adequate nutrition and caused severe underweight.

At the start of the trial, the 32-year-old defendant denied knowingly causing harm to two of her three children. Rather, the treatments were carried out because of the children's health problems and on the advice of doctors.

The process will continue in mid-December.
