North Rhine-Westphalia: trial for attempted manslaughter: dispute over loud music

Bielefeld (dpa / lnw) - Before the Bielefeld district court, a 28-year-old confessed to having attacked his roommate with a hammer and a knife and seriously injured him. The jury is trying the man for attempted manslaughter. The reason for the argument on July 20, 2022 in Spenge (Herford district) is said to have been too loud music.

However, the accused and the injured person describe the incident completely differently: the accused stated that he had to defend himself against his roommate in the municipal accommodation. The 37-year-old came into his room and threatened him and later choked him, so he wanted to fend him off.

On the other hand, the injured party stated as a witness that he had asked the accused to turn down the loud music so that he could make a phone call. When he wanted to go back to his room, the defendant hit him on the head from behind with a hammer and later attacked him with several knives. There had never been any trouble between the two before.

The 37-year-old has several scars on his face and neck after the attack and suffers from dizziness after being hit with a hammer. The trial for attempted manslaughter and aggravated assault will continue on January 17.
