North Rhine-Westphalia: truck crashes into hotel: driver injured, difficult recovery

Bestwig (dpa / lnw) - A truck left a street on Tuesday afternoon in Bestwig (Hochsauerland district) and crashed into the wall of a hotel. The 50-year-old driver from Meschede was seriously but not fatally injured, said a police spokesman. At the time of the accident, the cause of which was still unclear on a straight stretch, only a ten-year-old boy was in the hotel. He was not hurt and escaped with a fright.

The through road in the Ramsbeck district had to be closed for hours because the truck loaded with gravel had literally drilled into the wall of the house and got stuck. THW and the fire brigade would probably need several hours to complete the difficult rescue work, said the police spokesman. In addition, a structural engineer had to assess whether the building was in danger of collapsing. The cab of the truck is completely destroyed.
