North Rhine-Westphalia: Two injured, one arrest: homicide detective

Essen (dpa / lnw) - Two men, some seriously injured, found on Thursday night have so far puzzled the police in Essen. Around 12:30 a.m., the officials heard from the Essen fire department about a seriously injured person in front of the Marienhospital, the police said. A 29-year-old man had at least one heavily bleeding wound and underwent emergency surgery in the hospital that night. According to initial findings, a mortal danger for the man from Angola could not be ruled out.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m., the police received information about another injured person in the Westviertel. On site, the officials found a 22-year-old with minor injuries. In addition, there were indications of a connection between the two missions and a possible criminal offense. The 22-year-old Syrian was taken into custody for further investigation.

The police reported that they are currently assuming “an attempted homicide”. A homicide commission was formed that night. A helicopter was also used. The background to the incident is still unclear. The investigation is ongoing and the police are looking for witnesses.
