Porta-Westfalica (dpa/lnw) - Two missing swimmers have been rescued dead from a quarry pond near Porta Westfalica. The 26-year-old woman and the 27-year-old man have been missing since last Sunday (July 24). With the help of a sonar boat and a diving robot, the lifeless bodies of the people could now be located, the police said on Sunday evening.
According to witnesses, the swimmers from Bad Oeynhausen and Löhne were seen on air mattresses on the water. For reasons still unknown, they appeared to have gotten into trouble and sunk, police had previously said. Calls for help were also reported. Her clothes had been found on the shore. After that, numerous rescue workers from the fire brigade, DLRG and police, as well as drones and search dogs, searched for days on the company premises, which were actually closed to the public. The gravel lake is said to be up to 30 meters deep in some places.
