North Rhine-Westphalia: University clinic strike: Another large demo in Düsseldorf

The strikes at six NRW university clinics are in their seventh week. The Verdi union has once again called on employees to hold a large demonstration. Verdi federal boss Werneke is also coming to Düsseldorf.

Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - In the fight for better working conditions at the six university clinics in North Rhine-Westphalia, the employees want to reaffirm their demands this Friday with a large demonstration. The Verdi services union has called for further strike action in the weeks-long dispute over a collective agreement. According to union information, around 1,000 clinic employees will demonstrate at the site of the coalition negotiations in Düsseldorf and at the NRW Ministry of Finance.

The opening rally on Friday (10.30 a.m.) should be at the DGB building in the state capital. Then the demonstration procession goes to the Hofgarten, where a final rally is planned from 12.30 p.m. Verdi national chairman Frank Werneke is expected to be the keynote speaker.

The trade union is demanding compliance with the election promise made by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia to finance a collective bargaining agreement. The strikes at the university hospitals are now in their seventh week. According to Verdi, one point of contention in the ongoing negotiations with employers is the relief in the non-care area. The employers are accused of delaying tactics.
