North Rhine-Westphalia: Video surveillance by the police in Mönchengladbach extended

Mönchengladbach (dpa/lnw) - In Mönchengladbach, the police are extending the video surveillance that started in 2004 in the old town by a further twelve months. The police announced on Tuesday. Crimes in this area have decreased at times over the past two years. However, the police attribute this to fewer visitors due to the corona pandemic, when bars and restaurants were closed or only partially open. After the corona restrictions were lifted, the police therefore consider video surveillance to be just as necessary as before the pandemic. The situation will be reassessed before the extension expires.

Video surveillance by the police takes place at crime hotspots - including in Düsseldorf and Cologne. Nine cameras are installed in Mönchengladbach.
