Jüchen (dpa / lnw) - The Jüchen A44n wind farm near Düsseldorf with its six 164-meter-high wind turbines will be demolished this year due to serious construction defects. Six new wind turbines with a total output of 27 megawatts are then to be erected on the wind farm site, as the wind turbine manufacturer Nordex and the future operators - RWE, the city of Jüchen and the energy supplier New - announced on Thursday. The new facilities are scheduled to go into operation as early as 2023.
The wind turbines of the Jüchen A44n wind farm have been standing still for months for safety reasons after a wind turbine of the same construction collapsed in Haltern in the Ruhr area last autumn. The wind turbine was completely destroyed, only a 40 meter high stump made of concrete parts remained. In Jüchen, too, damage was found to the tower of one of the six turbines. The systems in Jüchen had not yet been handed over to the three operators at the time of decommissioning.
The wind turbines, each costing around five million euros, are now to be dismantled quickly. The dismantling concept provides for a complete dismantling of the wind turbines as a first step. Crucial components such as rotors, hub and nacelle are to be reused in the new wind farm. After that, the remaining concrete towers are to be blown up by experts.
