Mönchengladbach (dpa / lnw) - In the trial for the death of a 70-year-old woman from 29 stab wounds, the prosecution on Monday demanded eight years in prison for the victim's partner. At the beginning of the trial before the district court in Mönchengladbach, the 71-year-old confessed to having killed her partner out of jealousy and excessive possessiveness.
At the time of the crime in May 2022, the accused, who was mentally tense and plagued by fear of loss, was less responsible according to an expert opinion. Therefore, the initially raised murder charge was dropped. The prosecutor asked for a manslaughter conviction. The defense advocated a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
According to the accused, the act was triggered by the girlfriend having made fun of her jealousy and fears during the argument. "She said I was crazy," read the statement read by the defense attorney. "She ridiculed my worries." According to the indictment, the 71-year-old then went into the kitchen, got a knife with a blade length of 15 centimeters and stabbed the woman. She bled to death.
