North Rhine-Westphalia: wrong-way driver piles up after an accident with a stolen car

Titz (dpa / lnw) - After an accident with a stolen car on Autobahn 61 near the Jackerath Autobahn triangle, the police are looking for the escaped driver. The approximately 20 to 35-year-old man collided head-on with an oncoming trailer truck as a wrong-way driver in the driveway of the Jackerath junction near Titz, the police said in Cologne on Tuesday. After that, witnesses told investigators, the stranger climbed out of the wreck and ran down an embankment next to the highway. The man is said to have stolen the car in Kerpen, about 30 kilometers away. Despite a search with a police helicopter, the man was not initially discovered.

The 34-year-old driver of the semitrailer survived the collision on Tuesday morning unscathed. The investigation into the accident and car theft continues.
