Blankenheim (dpa / lnw) - To commemorate the victims of the flood disaster, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst (CDU), wants to plant a memorial tree in Blankenheim today (10 a.m.). In the community in the district of Euskirchen, which was severely affected by the flood, 48 trees have already been planted on a nature conservation area of the NRW Foundation. Wüst is to plant the 49th.
The trees stand for the 49 people who died in the floods in North Rhine-Westphalia in July 2021. On the anniversary of the flood, Wüst announced that the state government wanted to create a memorial to keep the memory alive and give hope.
