North Rhine-Westphalia: Wüst promotes women's rights: "live without fear"

Everyone has the right to live independently and without fear. However, women and girls often experience violence. There will be protests against this in many countries on Friday. Orange is the signal color.

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - North Rhine-Westphalia Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) campaigned for women's rights on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women this Friday. "In Iran, courageous women take to the streets to fight for their rights and their freedom. The fact that they have to fear for their lives, are threatened and experience violence horrifies us all," said the politician. "Every woman has the right to live without fear and in full self-determination - in Iran and in the rest of the world."

A number of activities are planned throughout NRW for the day. The city of Düsseldorf wants to set an example with an orange bench with the lettering "No Violence - no place for violence against women and girls". A demonstration for solidarity with women in Iran and Afghanistan is planned for the evening in Cologne. In Aachen, NRW Family Minister Josefine Paul (Greens) will speak at an event in the evening.
