North Rhine-Westphalia: Wüst: There is still a lot to do when it comes to equality

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst (CDU), called for more equal opportunities for women in a video message on International Women's Day. "On a day like today, we shouldn't look away from the fact that there is still a lot to do. That there are still a lot of injustices between women and men," said the CDU politician in his speech spread on social media channels Speech. Women still often earn significantly less than men because of their gender.

"Because strong women have always encouraged me, I am where I am today: Minister President of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia," said Wüst. In most cases, women from his mother's generation had no intention of making a career or studying at all. "They just didn't have the opportunities that women have today."

Fortunately, women now have more opportunities, he stressed. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to be done. "Our children should have every opportunity. Every opportunity to lead a self-determined life. It doesn't matter what gender they are," said Wüst.
