North Rhine-Westphalia: Young people in custody after a robbery for attempted murder

Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) - After a brutal attack on a 61-year-old in Gelsenkirchen, three young people are in custody for attempted murder. It is a 15-year-old girl and two boys, 15 and 17 years old. They are said to have ambushed and attacked a man in a park a week ago. The trio acted so brutally that the victim suffered life-threatening injuries, police and prosecutors said on Wednesday. The suspects were arrested on Friday after extensive investigations.

The victim, who was known to the perpetrators, had several thousand euros with him that evening. The perpetrators then deliberately ambushed the 61-year-old, the investigators said. However, the young people only took the wallet of the 61-year-old with a manageable amount of money. They did not find the large sum that the man was hiding, a spokesman said.

Because the young people acted out of greed and malice, they were being investigated for attempted murder. Although the victim was no longer in mortal danger, he was still in the hospital with serious injuries a week after the crime.
