Aachen (dpa / lnw) - An orchestra project from Portugal has won the European Youth Charlemagne Prize 2022. The city of Aachen announced this on Tuesday. Young musicians from Spain and Portugal take part in the "Orchestra Without Borders". The project aims to help reduce social and cultural inequalities through the highest standards of music making. Among other things, young musicians are supported with scholarships and concerts are organised.

Second prize went to an initiative from the Czech Republic, which regularly organizes debates with young politicians on social media. Third place went to a project from Germany that offers discussion about Europe in virtual dialogues. People from 36 countries took part.

The European Youth Charlemagne Prize is awarded to projects by young people by the European Parliament and the Charlemagne Prize Foundation in Aachen. The awards are endowed with a total of 15,000 euros.
