Günther Jauch has been moderating the RTL quiz show "Who wants to be a millionaire?" for a mere 23 years. (WWM). Since 1999, more than 1,500 issues have come together, including various special programs such as the "gambler special", the "surprise special" and of course the "celebrity special".
The number of viewers who tuned in, guessed and cheered over the years can probably no longer be quantified. Only the moderator himself is not attracted to the show in front of the television.
He does not look at the consequences again afterwards, Jauch revealed in an interview with his employer. "When I see afterwards how I'm gesturing, how I'm sitting crooked, how I can't finish sentences. Then I'm not satisfied with myself," the 66-year-old told RTL. Jauch added: "In order not to burden myself with unnecessary complexes, I never watch my show."
Since WWM went on the air in September 1999, 16 candidates have managed to crack the million dollar question. In 2019, Jauch spoke in an ntv interview about how he assesses his future as a WWM presenter: "The next anniversary would be in five years, then I'll slowly be approaching 70. It's hard for me to imagine, but I'll let it go just surprise me."
Last week, singer Max Mutzke, comedian Bastian Bielendorfer, presenter Jan Köppen and his colleague Andrea Kiewel surprised everyone with a total prize money of 317,000 euros in a "celebrity special". The money benefited the RTL donation marathon, which achieved a record total of 41.1 million euros this year.
