The race for records continues. Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic won his tenth Australian Open on Sunday, January 29 – a record, far ahead of the six titles of Swiss Roger Federer. He joins the Spaniard Rafael Nadal with twenty-two Grand Slam titles won – a record, there too, now moving two lengths away from Roger Federer, who announced his retirement in September.
Novak Djokovic beat the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-3, 7-6, 7-6) in the final, who hoped to register a first line in the table of Grand Slam tournaments – his previous final, at Roland-Garros in 2021, had been lost, already against Novak Djokovic.
Expelled from Australia last year before the start of the tournament because not vaccinated against Covid-19 and having lied on his entry documents into Australian territory, Novak Djokovic could only see, powerless, the return in force by Rafael Nadal who had taken a lead in the race for Grand Slam titles with a 21st major title (then 20 for Djokovic and Federer). A few months later, the Spaniard pushed his advantage at Roland-Garros. Winner then at Wimbledon but banned from entering the United States for the US Open for lack of being vaccinated against Covid-19, the Serb therefore intended to join Nadal on Sunday.
