NEW BRUNSWICK -- Authorities identified the man who was fatally stabbed early Saturday in New Brunswick as a 29-year-old from the city.
Investigators were searching for a suspect in the killing of Enrique Perez Galindo, according to a statement from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, which did not name the person being sought.
Galindo was stabbed in a driveway leading to an apartment complex on Hamilton Street, between Woodbridge and Bridge Streets, around 2:40 a.m., according to authorities. He managed to return to his home and was treated by emergency crews, but died of his wounds.
The prosecutor's office did not provide a motive for the slaying, but an alert issued by Rutgers University police described the attack as a robbery.
Two or three assailants tried to rob the victim when a fight ensued, according to the police department's alert. The victim was stabbed with an unspecified sharp object in the confrontation.
"No arrests have been made, but authorities are actively searching for a suspect," the prosecutor's office statement said.
The homicide was being investigated by Detective Drew Weiss of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective David Abromaitis of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

City police were also investigating a shooting that left two men wounded with non life-threatening injuries on Spring Street, near the Middlesex County Superior Court house around 1:20 a.m. Saturday. Police said the victims were not cooperating with detectives.
