Officials: Student injured in machete attack at Ocoee High School

An Ocoee High School student was injured last week when a classmate slashed him with a machete, school officials say.

The accused attacker had the machete hidden in the grass outside the school and brought it inside near the end of the day on Thursday, Orange County school officials said.

He then approached another student in a boy’s bathroom and swung. Medical professionals told school officials the victim had a superficial cut wound.

Officials said the student was arrested and the machete confiscated.

Principal Laura Beusse sent a message to parents on Monday notifying them of the attack, saying it was an “isolated incident between two students.”

“At no time was the safety on campus compromised,” she said.

The school helped investigate the incident, before handing the case over to Ocoee Police. Beusse told parents that the “appropriate disciplinary” action was taken.

“Please know that safety is a top priority for all students and staff on campus at all times,” she said.

School officials did not release either of the kids’ names or said what led up to the attack.
