Instead, they feed the doubts about the love out with posts in the social networks that they show together. Until the end of 2022 there is no stopping.

In October, Cathy Hummels officially used the word "separation" for the first time. In November, she then speaks in an RTL interview about the reasons that would have separated the couple.

The trigger was probably that the footballer decided in 2019 to switch from Bayern Munich to his old club Borussia Dortmund. "I couldn't do that, I'm happy here," said Cathy Hummels, adding: "A soccer player is away so much, and then always being alone, even with my son, without help..."

Cathy Hummels has had periods of severe depression in the past. She is certain that if she had moved to Dortmund again, she would have risked falling ill again. “Either I choose a person and I die, or the relationship. I had to make a decision for myself,” she summed it up in the RTL interview and explained with a view to Mats Hummels: “He said he I can't go on like this and I just knew I couldn't give him what he wanted or I would have gotten sick again."

Ultimately, only the - friendly - separation came into question. Shortly before Christmas, the official divorce of the 2015 marriage followed.

In a detailed Instagram post, Cathy Hummels now gives an intimate insight into her mental life after love. She also published several photos showing her with her son Ludwig, who was born in 2018. "My boy

"I'm very happy that I'm getting better and better, especially physically. To be honest, there were days when I thought I wouldn't wake up because I was so 'broken'. My weight kept going down and I sometimes had panic attacks because I was at a loss," she then goes into her personal condition.

She was mentally strong and "pushed everything away, but my body pulled the emergency brake and showed me: finally mourn and deal with this situation, or I don't like it anymore." She writes this to give encouragement and understanding to other women in similar situations. You often missed that. "Many didn't listen, but kept telling me how horrible I look. Short counter question: Do you really think I hadn't seen that I didn't look healthy anymore? But what should I do? I can't escape from my body . I live in it," says Cathy Hummels with some bitterness.

"I was always with the same person for 14 years. We grew up together. After our breakup, there was just this enormous hole. Now I'm fine again. And my body shows me," is her ultimately positive conclusion , to finally give everyone one more piece of advice: "Give yourself the time you need. Mourn. Digest (...) and have understanding for grief, otherwise it will catch up with you, like it did with me."
