Baker Mayfield successfully passed his physical on Thursday with the Panthers, which means that he is now officially part of the NFC South team.

This also means that he is officially a teammate with Sam Darnold who was chosen by the Jets as the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Mayfield was drafted first overall by the Browns in that year. It's not often that two quarterbacks are drafted so high in the same season.

According to Elias Sports the 1980 Raiders were the only team that had two quarterbacks selected in the top three rounds of the draft. The Oilers selected Dan Pastorini as their third pick in the 1971 draft. He opened the Raiders season as their starter. He was injured in a fall and had to be out of action for the rest of the season. Jim Plunkett, the Patriots' first overall pick in 1971, assumed the role.

Plunkett led the Raiders to their Super Bowl win in that year. Although not many people predict the same outcome for the Panthers this year, they are optimistic that Mayfield's arrival will produce better results than the ones they have had over the past few years.
