Parties: FDP rejects Rehlinger's criticism of Corona policy

The FDP Saar has rejected criticism by Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger (SPD) of the liberals’ corona policy. In a conversation with the German Press Agency, Rehlinger had accused the coalition partner at federal level of a “zero protection strategy”.

"I have to reject that very sharply," said deputy FDP state chairman Helmut Isringhaus on Tuesday, according to a statement. The state-prescribed protection must be “well thought out in terms of quality and time and targeted”. However, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) tends to “create confusion and panic with his statements,” criticized Isringhaus.

The FDP Saar supports the course of the federal party, which consists of "a very balanced policy" that takes into account both the physical and mental health of people, but also their personal freedom rights. "Of course, it is not true that we are pursuing a "zero protection strategy"," emphasized Isringhaus.

In the fight against the pandemic, Rehlinger does not rule out the reintroduction of a mask requirement in buildings or schools for autumn or winter. "You will have to look at where it makes sense," she said recently.

Rehlinger has been in charge of a one-party SPD government in Saarland since the end of April. In the state elections at the end of March, the FDP missed out on entering the state parliament with 4.8 percent.
