Pau: Nearly 200 medico-social workers demand an increase in their wages

Nearly 200 people from the medico-social and social sector marched through downtown Pau to the prefecture on Tuesday, May 31, at the call by the CGT. "I have problems with my pay." Between the heads of the crowd, the sentence is written in black and placed on a thin cardboard sign. It is located on the sunny prefecture of Pau's forecourt and symbolizes the unity of demands: All are asking for a permanent increase in their salaries of 300 euros.

Jean Castex, the ex-Prime Minister, announced on February 18 a salary hike of 183 euro for medico-social professionals. However, employees who feel forgotten by the sector are still angry at the extension of Segur de la sante.

David Retureau, a member of USD Social action's executive committee, said that "First, the exclusions of cleaners and housewives mean it's a whole medico-social field, around 30% which is left aside." The revaluation was then transformed into a bonus that is necessarily less permanent and does not contribute to the calculation of pensions.

The result? The result? The protestors add to the anger of the union officials. Philippe Bauby directs the structure, which he fears will disappear due to a lack of resources to recruit for a good salary.

Local elected officials and candidates for Assembly were invited to meet with union representatives as the legislative elections neared. No political figure responded to the invitation. On the Place Clemenceau's gray panels, Josy Poueyto (Renaissance), was the only one to be enthroned. The amendment budget to the 2022 finance bill will be up for vote starting June 20. This text could allow the sector's budgets to be increased.

Allende Goyex, a specialist teacher at the ITEP Rivehaute, is disillusioned and concludes, "We were also on front lines during Covid, like all workers in health sector, but it doesn't concern anybody."
