Pedestrian killed by train in Antioch

A pedestrian in Antioch was fatally struck by a train about 200 yards south of the North Avenue railroad crossing, according to the Antioch Police Department.

Police responded shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday to a report of a Canadian National Railway train striking a pedestrian, officials said in a news release. The pedestrian was walking on the tracks, according to the release.

The department did not release the identity of the deceased. Police were investigating Saturday, and said North Avenue was closed for a period of time from Main Street to Anita Avenue.

Attempts to reach the department Sunday were unsuccessful.
