Planned for autumn 2024: "Joker 2" will probably come to the cinema as a musical

In 2019, "Joker" celebrates a surprise success at the box office, and in 2024 the second part of the story about Batman's famous antagonist is due to appear. But instead of another drama, according to rumors, a musical awaits the viewer.

"Joker: Folie à Deux" will be released on October 4, 2024 - exactly five years after the first pure Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix as Batman's antagonist. The Warner Bros. Discovery film studio has now announced this. According to rumors, "Joker 2" will not be a drama, but a musical. It is considered certain that Phoenix will once again slip into the role of Arthur Fleck aka Joker. Todd Phillips' return to the director's chair has also been officially confirmed.

However, it is not yet clear who will be at the side of Phoenix. Lady Gaga is rumored to be starring as Harley Quinn. At least that's what the usually well-informed "The Hollywood Reporter" wrote in an article in June. The singer is already in negotiations with the producers. According to media reports, Phoenix should pocket $ 20 million in fees for his Joker comeback.

Produced on a relatively low budget of just over $60 million, "Joker" has grossed around $1 billion worldwide. The film was nominated for a total of eleven Oscars. Phoenix scooped the Best Actor award. Although "Joker" was conceived as a one-off thing, it quickly became clear that a sequel was sought.
