Prisoner killer admits that he will not be released

After he confessed to murdering another prisoner, a jailed killer has now accepted that he will not be released from prison.

Dean Ramsey, 30, was choked to death by James O'Rourke in what a judge called a "brutal execution".

The 52-year old was originally sentenced to life imprisonment in 1992. He was then sentenced to 23 more years by the High Court of Glasgow.

His lawyer stated that he was committing to spend the rest of his life in prison by pledging guilty.

O'Rourke was convicted of several offences behind bars and was seen shaking hands after the attack on 9th January 2021.

He exclaimed, "Just because I'm old, he thinks that I'm stupid." It cost him his life.

Judge Lord Arthurson said to him, "You are now 52. This is the most serious criminal record I've ever seen as a judge.

"This crime is the brutal, callous and remorseless execution of another prisoner."

O'Rourke was sentenced to life in 1992 for the murder of a man in Airdrie (North Lanarkshire),

After being held hostage by a Glenochil prison officer and nurse in 1997, he was granted six more years.

O'Rourke was sentenced to an eight-year term for assault and kidnapping in 2002, followed by four years for a second attack in 2004.

Next, he was sentenced to eight year imprisonment in 2005 for stabbing HMP Kilmarnock's prison escort.

After trying to kill another prisoner in the same jail, O'Rourke received a nine year sentence.
