The Raiders had announced earlier this week that they would be announcing a new president.
We now know who it is.
According to Mick Akers, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sandra Douglass Morgan will be named its new president. She is the first Black woman to serve as a team president in NFL.
Morgan was the former chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board. She held that position from 2019-2021. Morgan was the first Black woman to hold that position.
Akers reports Morgan's hiring was made public to Raiders employees via letter on Thursday.
Morgan stated that Morgan was thrilled to be with them as they embark on "one of the most exciting times" in the organization's history. "I look forward meeting you all in person over these coming weeks."
In less than one year, Morgan has become the third Raiders team President. Marc Badain, who had served the organization for over 30 years, abruptly resigned last July 19. Badain was replaced by Dan Ventrelle, who held the position until his firing in May.
Ventrelle claimed that he was fired after voicing concerns about Mark Davis' behavior at work.
Morgan stated in her letter that she was not there to sidestep or avoid problems or concerns that needed to be addressed. I have given much thought to the possibility of joining you and did so because I believe in your Raiders promise. I also believe in your core values, which include integrity, community and dedication to excellence. I expect you to live up to those values and hold me accountable.
Morgan will be introduced by the Raiders at a news conference at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
