Rains and storms cross the Peninsula today and, together with the heat, put five autonomous communities at risk

Five autonomous communities will be at risk this Saturday due to rain, storms or high temperatures, as warned by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Specifically, it has activated the warning for rain, which may accumulate more than 20 liters per square meter in León, Burgos, Palencia, Soria, La Rioja, Barcelona, Gerona and Lleida, provinces that will also be at risk from storms.

The storms will also put Valladolid, Zaragoza, Teruel and Castellón under risk warning, where they may be accompanied by hail. Alicante, for its part, will have a risk warning for high temperatures, which will exceed 36 degrees Celsius in inland locations.

In general, the AEMET expects that temperatures will remain high for the time of year this Saturday in the southeastern half of the peninsula, although there will be a notable drop in maximum temperatures in much of the Atlantic slope, the upper Ebro and the Pyrenees. Locally strong showers and storms will also be likely in the surroundings of the Eastern Pyrenees and the Iberian system.

In the northern half, a situation of instability and cloudy skies will predominate and there will be intervals of medium and high clouds in the southern half and the Balearic Islands, as well as abundant evolutionary cloudiness in the interior.

In general, the rains will be weak in the north and west of Galicia and the west of the Cantabrian coast and will be more intense in the eastern Cantabrian in the last hours.

In the interior of the northern half there will be showers and storms that will move from west to east throughout the day. In the eastern Pyrenees, Iberian system and in the afternoon in northern areas of Castilla y León the showers can be locally strong.

Although with less probability it also forecasts some isolated storms in the southern half of the Peninsula, mainly in mountain areas.

In the Canary Islands, slightly cloudy skies will predominate and there will be a possibility of haze on the southeast coast of the peninsula, although it will tend to recede.

The maximum temperatures will rise in the Mediterranean area, but will drop in the rest of the Peninsula and will do so notably on the Atlantic slope, the upper Ebro and the Pyrenees.

The minimums will rise in areas of the eastern third of the peninsula and will fall in the rest of the Peninsula, more sharply in the Central and Iberian systems. The maximums may exceed 35 degrees in the lower Guadalquivir and the interior of Murcia, Alicante and Valencia, while in the Canary Islands little or rising changes are expected.

Finally, regarding the winds, the AEMET expects them to blow from the northwest in the eastern Cantabrian; from the east or northeast in the Balearic Islands and from the northeast in the Canary Islands. In the rest of the country they will be variable, although increasing to the northwest on the Atlantic slope and the Ebro valley. Westerly winds are also expected in the Strait and in Alborán.
