Rovanpera is the dominant force in 2022, even if we forget about veteran Sebastien Loeb's victory at Rallye Monte-Carlo. He is 46 points ahead of his nearest rival, Thierry Neuville (Hyundai), who is the youngest World Rally Championship (WRC), leader in its history.

Dani Sordo from Hyundai is the best-equipped driver for this weekend. He will be racing between Olbia, Alghero and dirt tracks, where he has won twice in three years. He is still in third place in Portugal, just behind Rovanpera, a Toyota driver, and Elfyn Evans, a Welshman.

The Spaniard will make his 14th Sardinia start and will be able put his vast experience to good use. He will also be in a favorable track position on day one: 6th in the order of starting, since he is not in contention to win the title and has not played the first three rounds.

Sebastien Loeb, a former Citroen lieutenant, recalls that "this rally has often smiled upon me." I feel good. Both the roads and the site are my favorite. We made a small error last year that resulted in an exit. However, we were solid the previous year and I hope that this year will be no different. Neuville and Sordo have won twice in Sardinia. Sebastien Ogier will not be there. He continues his preparations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Two semi-retired "Sebs" will be returning to Kenya for the famous Safari. This gives Toyota even more reason to celebrate it.

Toyota isn't content with its victory laps after the Elfyn Evans / Kalle Rovanpera double in Portugal. Evans is just 5th in the championship after a disappointing start to the season.
