Roger Goodell: Sunday ticket is moving to streaming, with a decision expected later in the year

The NFL Commissioner has revealed one of its worst-kept secrets.

Roger Goodell, a CNBC host, stated that Sunday Ticket will be leaving DirecTV following the 2022 season.

Goodell stated via Daniel Kaplan, TheAthletic.com that Sunday Ticket will eventually be a streaming service and that a decision would be made in the fall.

CNBC reported recently that Apple, Disney and Amazon had bid for the package. The three corporate giants are awaiting the NFL's next move.

CNBC also reported that DirecTV's successor to DirecTV cannot significantly reduce the $300 per-year price due to the NFL contracts and CBS/Fox agreements. This protects the big companies who have paid a lot to be able to play games on local affiliates in a particular area.

Fans/consumers who wish to view the games they want are also not able to benefit from this service. However, most consumers/fans would be willing to pay for an internet-based service that allows them to watch the games in a way that is reliable and effective.

Despite all the advancements made by the league in recent years Sunday Ticket still lags. This will apparently change next year.

You must have reliable and effective high-speed Internet access. I'm sorry, but you won't be able to join me on the ride if you don't have reliable high-speed Internet service.
