Rugby. Deon Fourie (ex FCG) is soon joining the Springboks

Although he only spent two seasons in Grenoble, (from 2019-2021), he made a lasting impression on the hearts of his supporters. He was a winner of our 2020-2021 FCG Star Ranking and the "best Grenoble resident" award by Internet users after the conclusion of this Pro D2 Championship. Deon Fourie, a strong defender and scratcher, has been back in South Africa since then.

Fourie will turn 36 in September and has been called up by Jacques Nienaber (Springboks coach) to join a group that includes 43 players who are being called up to prepare for the summer tour. There will be three tests against Wales on Saturday July 2, 9, and 16. In continuity, there is also the Rugby Championship, which is the closed championship between the major southern hemisphere nations with Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina.

If Fourie wins his first international cap this summer, Fourie would become the oldest Springboks player to get started. This record was held by Deon Lotte (35, 8 months, 22 days) since 1993.

However, there is intense competition among the current world champions with Franco Mostert (Honda Heat) and Rynhardt Elstadt, (Stade Toulousain).

Deon Fourie, who left FCG in summer 2021, has enjoyed a full season. He played with the Stormers in United Rugby Championship, a competition that brings together South African provinces with European teams from Ireland. He also plays in the Currie Cup, an internal competition in South Africa.

He was the one who said, in a May 2021 interview with Dauphine Libere, that he "wanted to play at high level at the end his career".
