"Samaritan" on Prime Video: Sylvester Stallone mimics the tired superhero

Comic adaptations as far as the eye can see. In "Samaritan" it is Sylvester Stallone who gives the superhero. But the 80s icon has nothing new to add to the genre, apart from a melancholic look.

Joe Smith (Sylvester Stallone) lives a reclusive life. During the day he works at the Granite City garbage disposal. In the evening he goes home and repairs old radios found in the garbage. Joe's everyday life is thrown into turmoil when a neighborhood boy (Javon Walton) mistakes him for the superhero "Samaritan" who is said to have died in a fire many years ago.

The initial situation, the setting and the characters of "Samaritan" definitely have the potential for a great film that could have worked as a counterpart to the "Joker" with Joaquin Phoenix. But neither director nor screenplay know what to do with their hero. "Samaritan" quotes the genre bloodlessly and Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone routinely mimes the tired superhero.
