Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has made a big comeback after a four-year hiatus. His latest film, Pathaan, grossed more than 5 billion rupees ($60 million) in less than a week, according to The Times of India and The Indian Express, among others. The action film can currently also be seen in some German cinemas.

The 57-year-old is one of the most famous and popular Indian actors with millions of fans in his homeland and around the world. He became famous as a romantic lover in love films. Prior to Pathaan, he had taken a few years off from larger roles. Khan explained his creative hiatus by saying he wanted to spend more time with his family after three decades of 18-hour days.

"Pathaan" is about a terrorist group that wants to destroy India in a major attack. Superhero Pathaan (Khan) must save his country from evil.

The film also attracted a lot of attention on social media in India. In the predominantly Hindu country, some Hindu hardliners protested against the film. This was partly due to a scene interpreted as revealing, in which the popular Indian actress Deepika Padukone can be seen in a saffron-yellow bikini - a color associated with Hinduism. Khan is also a Muslim and has in the past spoken out about the growing tensions between the Hindu majority and the Muslim minority.
